Little did I know, when starting out, that the frustration of repeatedly missing out on grants was the beginning of a journey that would not only demystify grant writing but also give me

the power to make a real impact for the causes I cared about.

I remember sitting in front of my computer, looking at a blank screen and feeling really frustrated every time

I tried to write a grant application. The instructions were so confusing, as if they where written in another language.

Trying to match my project with what the funders wanted was really hard.

It was tough to show how their was support for the project, and writing a compelling proposal seemed impossible.

I started to doubt myself and ability to do this.

My lack of confidence was preventing me from accessing the funda that could support great projects for the

communities I cared about. But then, my determination kicked in and I decided to persevere and find a better way.

That moment started my quest and lead to the creation of a special method that has

guided me with every grant I have writen since.

I resolutely began to design checklists and templates that where fit for purpose, user friendly, and best of all, enabled me to successfully won grants totallying over 3 million for my partnering communities and busineses.

10 Key Steps to Get You Started

Before seeking grants, it's crucial to lay out your project in straightforward terms.

Define your objectives, spell out your goals, detail the outcomes you expect, and make sure everything aligns with what the funder stands for. This not only ensures that your project is crystal clear but also demonstrates a well-thought-out approach, increasing your chances of securing the support you need.

1.

Start your grant journey by searching out available opportunities. Hunt down grants that closely match your project's focus. Take a close look at the eligibility criteria for each potential grant to ensure a good fit. Prioritise grants that align strongly with your mission, setting the stage for successful partnerships that resonate with your project's goals.

2.

Heading 3

Get to know your potential funders inside out.

Study the values and priorities of the funding organisation to understand what drives their support. Take a look at past grant recipients and their projects to gain insights. Armed with this knowledge, tailor your proposal to align precisely with the funders' goals.

3.

Tell a powerful story that brings your project to life and demonstrates its value and performance.

Weave a compelling narrative that not only communicates its importance but also draws attention to the uniqueness and innovation embedded in your approach. Most importantly, emphasise the human impact of your project - put faces and stories to the cause. This narrative strength conveys the real-world significance of your endeavour.

4.

Lay out the financial roadmap for your project with a detailed budget.

Clearly outline your budgetary needs, leaving no room for second

guessing. Ensure that the budget corresponds seamlessly with the specific grant guidelines. Transparent and purposeful budgeting boosts credibility and also sends a clear message that you manage your finances diligently, making your organisation a less risky and more reliable investment.

5.

Showcase the diverse skills and expertise within your project team.

Highlight each team member's relevant experience and qualifications, which in combination elevate your team's collective strength. Demonstrate your team's capability and cohesion, which are a key asset for successful project execution.

6.

Show the funder how you are going to measure the success of

your project.

In simple terms explain the process you will be undertaking to monitor and measure the impact your project is making. Share what you've learned from past successes or challenges.

7.

Understand exactly what the grant guidelines are asking for and make sure your application is 100% in alignment

Develop a checklist to ensure you have all the required documents. Ensure that you write your proposal so that it is easy to read and review.

8.

Refine your work through careful proofreading and editing.

Don't hesitate to seek feedback, as another set of eyes can make a world of difference.  Taking the time to polish and perfect, your proposal will enable you to confidently, present a document that not only shines, but also communicates why the funder should choose you!

9.

Break your proposal into sections, creating a timeline for each part to stay on track.

Set realistic deadlines that anticipate potential delays and, provide a buffer for unexpected challenges. Aim to submit well before the grant closing date to avoid last-minute stress and showcase your commitment to meeting deadlines.
