Post pandemic business blues - did you do the work?

One of the things nearly every small business owner has shared with me over the past 12 months is the feeling that they have lost direction and repeatedly ask themselves why they went into business in the first place.

They expressed feelings that being in business is hard, the shine of something new and exciting wore off ages ago, and any passion for what they do have been replaced with a never-ending day to day grind.

Mary certainly understood what this felt like.

There was one client, let us call her Mary. After many years in business working crazy hours needing to be at her best every day she was worn out, wanted out and it looked like this was going to happen as she was in the final stages of selling her business, dreaming of lazy days. Then one week before the sale was finalised the pandemic hit, her business along with the rest of the world shut down, the sale was lost, and she found herself at ground zero yet again.

A few weeks into lock-down something sparked Mary’s interest and she joined one of my programs. In the first ten minutes of joining I was wondering why she joined the rest of the online class.

This is a common problem with most business people.

The first class in my program seems to be the most difficult for some people it digs deep into their purpose and why. Mary was no exception.

By the end of the first class, I was wondering if I would ever see Mary again. I am glad to say I did. By the fourth class in the program, there was a small shift, by the sixth class in the program her purpose and passion had returned, and I was happy to hear the excitement in her voice for the first time.

For those that know me, I can hear them say (as they roll their eyes) here she goes again but the reason Mary was excited was that through my program she regained clarity and direction through the development of a business plan.

Clarity connects you with your purpose.

Just like Mary, a carefully thought-out business plan will help you to understand your purpose and you're why. It will give you a clear pathway to achieve your personal and business goals.

Being in lock-down was difficult for Mary and her business. It was easy for her to give up. She dug deep, found the strength to push through limiting beliefs, and did the work to rediscover her purpose and passion for her business and has now forged a new and exciting pathway ahead.

You are not alone.

Mary was not alone in the program. Over thirty businesswomen completed the program and now have a renewed sense of purpose and have developed a business plan that will lead them to future success.

Plan your work, work your plan.

Your business needs you to act as though success is a certainty. Align your business with your purpose, take the time to create a carefully thought-out plan, do the work, and stride forward with focus, determination to make things happen.

If you do not have a plan, then you and your business are at risk of taking any path somewhere that may not lead you to where you really need to go.
